She climbed into her daughter’s hospital bed, wrapped her arm around her, and held on. Then came the hug she would remember forever.

Her childhood was shaped by instability, rejection, family trauma and experiences that forced her to grow up far too soon. As a young girl, she endured abandonment, homelessness and painful struggles with colorism and self-worth.
