  • #WorkingMomof3Life
    2024/10/18

In this episode, we discuss the challenges of returning to work and sustaining careers as mothers and how doing so got increasingly more difficult the more children we had. We touch on the cost of child care, demoting to lower positions to accomodate the needs of our families, how long it took us to return to full time work and managerial positions, the imbalance that comes with "doing it all," how we both thought we were sick but it turned out to be just typical mom exhaustion, and review research that indicates the most "stressed" out mothers are reported as mothers of 3 and hypothesize why that may be true. We hope you enjoy this girl talk about family and careers and please contact us on Instagram @in.the.pinkroom or via email at inthepinkroomwithjessandlaura@gmail.com. to share your thoughts and experience on this topic.

  • The One that Got Away
    2024/10/06

The recent break-up of JLo and Ben Affleck prompted this Pink Room conversation about "The One that Got Away." We discuss this concept and include responses and stories from our listeners (70% said yes, this is a real thing), dissect the psychology behind this idea (our hypothesized guess is people often romanticize past relationships due to boredom in long-term relationships), and the objective of reaching out to the one that got away (derives from guilt over how things ended or the thoughts of "what if?" We also share our thoughts on soul mates and whether they exist and conclude that the past should be left in the past and a memory of the the one that got away should just be a memory to be grateful for, and that's all. Thank you for joining us, In the Pink Room.

  • On Raising Sons in the Preteen Stage with Melissa Lawson
    2024/07/14

While Laura is visiting with her best friend, I interview a fellow baseball mom, Melissa Lawson, that has a preteen son, BA in Psychology and MA in Marriage and Family Counseling. Melissa and her family are moving to Chicago from Sacramento in 2 weeks and since she loves Podcast and has been our #1 Hype Chick and promoter, I thought it would be fun to give her the exprience of being a co-host on the show. So, join us for a conversation In the Pink room about the challenges of raising a preteen son (self regulation, coping with failure and communicating their emotions), toxic masculinity, Bigorexia (Yes, it's a thing), teaching sportsmanship, instilling "gentleman behavior" at a young age, and discussing if raising a son or daughter is harder. Melissa also sheds light on raising a biracial son and bonus daughter, which we will cover more in depth when Melissa visits in the fall from Chicago - Laura will join us for that one! As always, data collection and statements from our listeners are added to our conversation.

I hope you enjoy this episode!
