In this episode, we revisit the Rose Petal Murder case with Troy Styles of Blunt Force Media to discuss significant new developments that could reshape the case. In February 2025, after brief deliberations, a Greenville County jury convicted Zachary Hughes of the October 2021 murder of Christina Parcell. Hughes was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case has now been remanded to the circuit court, where a judge will determine whether newly discovered evidence, following the victim's fiancé's recent guilty plea, warrants a new trial. Hughes' direct appeal has been placed on hold pending that decision. One of the issues raised on appeal is Hughes' claim that he was not permitted to present a complete defense at trial. Hughes has maintained that he killed Parcell to protect her minor daughter from what he believed was ongoing sexual abuse.
