Illegal Immigrant arrests up 500% in WA state as ICE utilizes DOL Data

The University of Washington Center for Human Rights just published a report documenting how ICE has shattered Washington state's sanctuary shield — not by changing the law, but by exploiting the infrastructure Washington built when it became the first state to hand out driver's licenses regardless of immigration status. Researchers confirmed 356 immigration arrests tied directly to federal agents accessing state driver and vehicle records they're legally barred from having — and those are only the cases with what director Angelina Godoy calls "smoking-gun evidence."
The access routes are brazen: direct DOL record pulls, the NLETS interstate law enforcement telecom network, commercial data brokers buying state records outright, and shared passcodes passed between agents to sidestep individual access restrictions. Washington designed its sanctuary framework to block this data sharing. ICE routed around every single layer of it.
Sean unpacks the irony that Washington's own political choices — issuing licenses to anyone regardless of status, creating a centralized registry — handed ICE the most comprehensive target list in the country. The result is ICE arrests in Washington up roughly 500% in a single year. The sanctuary laws didn't protect anyone. They organized the database.
