  • Trail Across The Desert
    2026/10/30
    Originally Aired: March 10, 1939
The Lone Ranger #955, "Trail Across The Desert," the masked rider and Tonto arrive at old Clem Hardy's ranch just as the pioneer battles flames consuming his home. The fire was no accident—outlaws Notch Parsons and Stag Tracy set the blaze after stealing the cash Clem received from selling his cattle. When Sheriff Jake Whipple and his posse pursue the thieves into the waterless desert, they're forced to turn back, as they always do. The criminals seem to cross the impossible terrain without sufficient water, baffling everyone including the local Apache who insist no water holes exist there.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto follow the trail themselves, staying hidden from the sheriff's posse. Along the way, they discover mysterious tracks following the outlaws—enormous prints unlike any horse, mule, or wild animal native to the region. The Lone Ranger recalls seeing similar marks only once before in his life, and though he knows revealing what he suspects would earn disbelief from the law, he formulates a plan. With a new theory taking shape, the masked man decides to head to Hazleton to learn more from the sheriff's office.

    Originally Aired: March 8, 1939
The Lone Ranger #954, "Race To Cattle Market," young Bill Tyler returns home from school in the East, eager to work alongside his father on the family ranch. His homecoming quickly turns sour when he discovers his father, Jeff Tyler, plans to send a trail herd to Central City in a calculated move to bankrupt their longtime rivals, the Wilsons. Bill's situation becomes complicated when he reveals he met Mary Wilson on the stagecoach and was taken with her before learning her identity. Jeff Tyler remains committed to honoring his own father's dying wish to drive the Wilsons off the range, seeing this cattle drive as his chance to finish them off through financial ruin.
When Bill protests the injustice of taking advantage of the struggling Wilson outfit and declares his intention to help them get their herd to market first, father and son reach an impasse. Bill leaves home with nothing but the clothes on his back, determined to ensure the Wilsons win the race to Central City. The Lone Ranger and Tonto encounter Bill on the trail to Richfield, and the masked man quickly recognizes that the young man isn't being entirely truthful about his circumstances, setting the stage for the Lone Ranger's involvement in this bitter family feud.

    Originally Aired: March 6, 1939
The Lone Ranger #953, "Mistreated Boy," the masked rider and Tonto discover a desperate young runaway named Jerry near a widow's cottage in Hillsborough. The frightened boy refuses to reveal his last name or explain why he's alone, wearing worn-through shoes and a thin coat, and hasn't eaten in two days. When Mrs. Martin helps remove Jerry's muddy coat, they discover horrifying whip marks across his back. The traumatized child remains too terrified to identify his abuser, insisting only that if he tells what he knows, "he'd hit me again."
Meanwhile, the source of Jerry's terror becomes clear. A hard-faced man named King and his rough cohands, Abe and Dale, are tracking the boy across Texas. King is Jerry's uncle and guardian, controlling the boy's ranch until he comes of age. They're desperate to recapture Jerry before he reveals what he witnessed: King and his men murdering Jerry's father by throwing him off a cliff. King used his bullwhip to force Jerry's silence, but now the boy has escaped, and King knows that as long as Jerry remains free, it's "like having a loaded gun pointed at your head."
