Who you listen to matters more than you think. Who you listen to shapes a life of peace and joy. If you listen to others before God, you could easily be led astray. However, when you listen to God's word, you are more likely to make healthy decisions that will lead to emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Who are you listening to? What other resources have you depended on before going to Jesus for the answers or help you need? Before seeking advice, prayerfully consider who you ask. What happens when you don't listen to God first? Hebrews 5:11-14 2 Timothy 4:3-4 Listening to God's Word to become more like Jesus. Holy Pause Who are you listening to? The risk of comparison. 2 Corinthians 10:12 The fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Romans 12:6-8 The common good Discernment and decision-making. 1. Scripture: What does Scripture say about what you need help with or the decision you are trying to make? What does it say about you and about God? Seek God's will for you by praying, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance, and reading His Word. Especially focus on the character of God and what He promises us in His Word. 2. Others: Who are you listening to? Surround yourself with Godly people who will guide you from a place of moral integrity, values, and love, and who will seek Godly advice on your behalf. 3. Your gut: Listen to your gut. Do you feel at ease, or does something nag at you, making you anxious, fearful, or restless about the decision you are about to make or the person you are seeking guidance from? Summary In summary, we have three powerful resources when we need help: Scripture, others, and our gut, with Scripture being the most powerful. Seek, then listen. He answers.
