President Donald Trump is facing renewed international pressure over his administration’s Russia policy. The president has declined to impose additional measures on Moscow for now, saying new sanctions could interfere with negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Reuters reports that Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the administration may take as long as sixty days to assess the economic impact of sanctions and tariffs that were recently suspended. Ukraine remains a central concern. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as fighting continued and energy facilities were targeted. Zelensky said United States intelligence sharing with Ukraine had resumed. Secretary Rubio disputed reports that the administration had paused intelligence support. The administration also extended temporary humanitarian protections for people from Ukraine and Sudan, allowing roughly one hundred thousand Ukrainians and eighteen hundred Sudanese to remain and work in the United States while the Department of Homeland Security reviews the policy. The White House is also dealing with major staffing turbulence. Katie Zacharia was dismissed as White House press secretary after only a few days in the position. The sudden departure has fueled speculation about internal disagreements and the future role of Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The White House has not announced a permanent replacement, and conservative activist Laura Loomer has publicly expressed interest in the position. President Trump also endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October twenty-seventh election. The endorsement comes as tensions with Iran and concerns about energy prices remain major foreign-policy challenges for the administration. That is the White House Daily Briefing for today.
