# Productivity and Focus: A Mindfulness Practice Hello, and welcome back. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, it's early Tuesday morning as we're recording this, and I'm guessing your to-do list is already whispering to you. Maybe you've got deadlines breathing down your neck, or perhaps you're staring at a full calendar wondering where your focus went. That's exactly why we're together right now. Here's the truth: productivity isn't about grinding harder. It's about training your mind to stay put, like a dog learning to sit. And that's what we're practicing today. So find yourself somewhere quiet, even if it's just five minutes before the world wakes up. You can sit on a chair, cross-legged on the floor, or honestly, even standing up works. The key is that your spine feels tall and your shoulders can relax down away from your ears. Let's start by taking three intentional breaths together. Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold it for just a moment, and exhale through your mouth. Again. And once more. Notice how that feels different from the breathing you were doing thirty seconds ago. That shift? That's your nervous system saying thank you. Now, here's our main practice. I want you to imagine your focus as a beam of light, like a flashlight. Right now, that beam is scattered everywhere, illuminating ten different rooms at once. Our job is to narrow it down. Pick one thing in front of you. One task. One object. Just one. Really see it. Notice its shape, its color, maybe even how it smells or feels. When your mind wanders, and it will, because that's what minds do, gently say to yourself, "I notice that thought," and guide your attention back to that beam of light. Back to what matters right now. Don't fight the distraction. Just acknowledge it like you're nodding hello to a friend, then turn your attention back. Do this for the next three minutes. Let your focus narrow. Feel it becoming more solid, more powerful. This is what laser focus actually feels like in your nervous system. As we close, remember this: the practice isn't about never getting distracted. It's about noticing when you have, and coming home to your intention. Take this skill into your day. When you sit down to work, take thirty seconds to narrow that beam of light. Watch how much more you actually accomplish. Thank you so much for joining me today on Productivity and Focus. I truly mean that. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can practice together again soon. You've got this. For great deals today, check out https://amzn.to/47ZqpWT
