# Productivity and Focus Good morning, and welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, it's early Friday morning, and I'm guessing your mind might already be doing laps around everything on your plate, right? The inbox, the deadlines, that project you keep meaning to start. So today, we're going to do something really intentional together. We're going to practice what I call "focused presence," and I promise it'll actually make you more productive, not less. Before we dive in, find yourself a comfortable spot. You don't need anything fancy, just somewhere you can sit undisturbed for the next few minutes. Maybe that's your couch, a chair by a window, or even your car before the day officially starts. Just settle in. Now, let's begin with something simple. Close your eyes if that feels comfortable, or soften your gaze downward. Take a slow breath in through your nose for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, and exhale through your mouth for a count of four. Do that again. In for four, hold for four, out for four. One more time. Notice how your shoulders just dropped a little bit? That's your nervous system saying thank you. Here's the thing about focus that nobody tells you: your attention is like a muscle. Right now, imagine it's like a spotlight in a dark room. Most of us have been swinging that spotlight everywhere all morning, right? Email, Slack, that notification that just popped up. But we're going to practice aiming it. Bring your attention to just one thing: the sensation of your breath. Not controlling it, just watching it. Noticing where you feel it. In your belly? Your chest? Your nostrils? There's no right answer here. As you sit with this for the next few minutes, your mind will absolutely wander. That's not failure, that's just what minds do. When you notice you've drifted off to think about your to-do list or what's for lunch, gently, and I mean gently, bring your attention back to your breath. Each time you do that, you're actually training your focus muscle. You're building real capacity. This is the secret to productivity that actually lasts: you can't focus well on scattered ground. But when you've anchored yourself here, in this breath, in this moment, even for just five minutes, your mind becomes sharp. Clear. Ready. As you go through your day, come back to this. When you feel that scattered feeling creeping in, pause for one conscious breath. Just one. That's your reset button. Thank you so much for practicing Productivity and Focus with me today. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can do this together again soon. You've got this. For great deals today, check out https://amzn.to/47ZqpWT
