You can hear it in Jeff Anderson’s voice right away: he’s not chasing a highlight reel, he’s trying to tell the truth. Jeff grew up in West Michigan, moved 13 times, lived poor, and still learned to look outward. That early “see a need and meet it” mindset leads him to volunteer at Ground Zero after 9/11, enlist in the US Army, and eventually serve as an airborne combat medic on a relentless 2005 Afghanistan deployment where every mile of road training you to expect the worst.
We also get real about what happens after the uniform stops being the whole world. Jeff describes coming home irritable, trying to force normal life back into place, and learning the hard way how reintegration can strain a marriage even when everyone is doing their best. From there, he takes a huge leap into the Interservice Physician Assistant Program, commissions as an officer, and moves through roles that range from unit readiness to the Old Guard to urgent care response inside the Pentagon.
Then the conversation widens to the parts of military life people rarely summarize in a sentence: complicated pregnancies, NICU nights, losing a child, foster care, adoption, and still showing up for the mission. Jeff’s Guard years in Washington, DC include major national events, January 6, COVID, and the kind of burnout that eventually forces a reset. That reset becomes a new mission: value-based care, healthcare innovation, and mobile hospital-level care designed to reach rural communities and rural veterans who can’t get what they need fast enough.
