During the late 1970s, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono terrorized Los Angeles by committing a string of horrific homicides, targeting ten women and girls whom they strangled after posing as law enforcement officers. A new Peacock docuseries titled The Hillside Strangler: Devil in Disguise reexamines these crimes while shifting focus away from the perpetrators and onto the diverse backgrounds of the victims. The murdered individuals included students, aspiring performers, young teenagers, and sex workers whose marginalization unfortunately delayed widespread public outrage. Investigators ultimately uncovered disturbing details of physical torture and binding unique to the case, prompting safety warnings for drivers pulled over by fake cops. Ultimately, this documentary honors the lost lives and explores the societal biases that influenced the initial handling of the investigation.
