TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE:1 Peter 5:8–9
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. [9] Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. (ESV)
SUMMARY
We read 1 Peter 5:8-9 and sit with the startling image of the devil as a roaring lion. We unpack what it means to resist with steady faith, remember we are not alone in suffering, and end with a prayer for watchfulness and rest.
• facing the fear in the “roaring lion” image without panic
• defining “firm in your faith” as confidence in Jesus Christ
• remembering God lives in us and gives strength to resist
• taking comfort that believers worldwide share similar suffering
• closing prayer for protection, grace, and peaceful sleep
