- Roy Schultz, a septic tank service worker, found a single polished dark brown Oxford shoe size 11 in Alice's backyard on a wooden bench in March 2018, with a phone number written in blue ink folded inside.
- Voice analysis of Alice's recorded phone calls revealed at minimum two distinct speakers presenting as Duane Lewis, with one carrying flat Midwest vowels and the other not.
- Marcus Webb had previously operated the same rotating-cast romance scam against a woman named Barbara Fitch in 2015, stealing $22,000, but the statute of limitations expired before charges could be filed.
