Leaders are being asked to do more than ever. Hit the numbers. Develop the team. Answer the email. Attend the meeting. Implement the initiative. Solve the problem. Stay strategic. Be available.
And somehow, everything has become a priority.
In Episode 147 of the Leadership Sandbox, Tammy J. Bond challenges the way leaders think about urgency, importance and priority—and why confusing the three can turn leadership into a constant state of reaction.
With manager engagement sitting at just 22% globally, the pressure on leaders isn't imaginary. But workload isn't the whole story. Leaders also have to examine how their own behaviors—instant responsiveness, taking problems back, accepting every meeting and treating every request as urgent—contribute to the overwhelm they're experiencing.
Tammy introduces three questions leaders can use immediately when another "priority" lands on their desk:
What happens if this waits? Does this actually require me? What am I willing to move for this?
Because if nothing loses when a new priority is added, you haven't prioritized.
You've just added more work.
