The Dry Apron and the Vanished Volunteer
In this episode, we follow the timeline and physical evidence surrounding Philip Kowalski’s disappearance and the puzzling presence of a Millward Community Food Pantry apron by the Millward River. We trace who saw the apron last, who found the body, and which records suddenly appear - but who placed the apron and why remains the question.
Person: Philip Kowalski
Date: June 8-9 (last seen June 6; body found June 9 at 6:14 AM)
Location: Millward River bank; Millward Community Food Pantry; 811 Crane Street apartment building
Status: Body recovered; medical examiner notes manual strangulation; apron logged as Evidence Item Seven
Person: Detective Kathleen Draper
- Philip worked Tuesday evening shifts at the pantry for 14 months and Nora saw him hang the blue apron at 8:28 PM on June 6.
- By 9:00 AM on June 7 the apron was missing from the pantry’s locked building that only Nora could open.
- Philip texted Marcus Teel at 11:00 PM on June 7: “we need to talk, tonight, I'm serious,” and Marcus did not respond before Philip disappeared.
- A contractor’s billing record from Bruce Tucker claims an HVAC inspection at 811 Crane Street on June 7, a visit with no supporting building access log entries.
- Dean West found Philip’s body face-down in the river at 6:14 AM on June 9 with the neatly folded, dry apron beside it despite six inches of flood overflow at that spot the previous afternoon.
