The Storm Door That Opened Her Killer's Path
In this episode, we follow the sequence of events around Lisa Wells's death and the paper trail that tied a rail-yard contractor to her missing suitcase. What do badge logs, train manifests, and a storm door left unforced reveal about who visited her that night?
Person: Lisa Wells
Date: December 8-9, 2019
Location: 14 Crandall Street, Dellworth Junction, New Mexico
Person: Roger Nelson
Event: Samsonite suitcase tagged "L. WELLS, DELLWORTH NM" logged for 7:14 southbound
- At 7:14 on December 9 a Samsonite suitcase tagged to Lisa Wells was loaded onto a southbound platform at Dellworth Junction, checked in and routed for that train.
- Lisa Wells, a retired Dellworth Junction billing clerk, was found dead at home on December 9; her bedroom showed packed drawers, toiletries bagged, a coat laid out, and the suitcase missing.
- A neighbor found Wells’s storm door swinging open in 28-degree weather early that morning and called the Cibola County Sheriff's Office after getting no response.
- Manifest and swipe-card records showed a badge login by R. Nelson on the manifest at 10:52 PM on December 8 logging a transfer of one Samsonite bag tagged to Lisa Wells.
- Nelson’s access-card registered four after-hours, unscheduled Tuesday entries over eight weeks that coincided with dates when Wells was confirmed at her bridge club.
