President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday for a state visit and formal dinner. According to Reuters, the meeting emphasized ceremony and personal diplomacy, but produced no immediate breakthroughs on major disputes involving trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, or the war with Iran. The White House says President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are scheduled to meet President Xi and Peng Liyuan today for private tea, followed by a visit to the National Archives. Xi is expected to leave the United States later today. Technology leaders, including Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, attended Thursday’s state dinner, according to a guest list released by the White House. A federal judge has temporarily ordered the administration to restore press access for CNN, MS Now, and Politico. The judge found that the White House ban on those outlets was likely unconstitutional and ordered their credentials returned for fourteen days. The outlets say some of their reporters were still denied entry during Thursday evening’s state dinner, creating a renewed dispute over compliance with the ruling. The administration is also appealing a court decision that limits deportations to countries other than a person’s country of origin. Officials argue that the ruling disrupted planned deportation flights and are asking the Supreme Court to intervene. That is the latest from the White House and the Trump administration this morning.
