At long last, we've done it. Finally, years now after the original prophesy delivered to Zach in a dream, we've fulfilled our ultimate goal of watching the entire Fast franchise back-to-front. We've finally sat down and watched the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious. In some ways, it was exactly what we expected. But in some other important ways, it was almost nothing like what we expected. So how does it hold up against everything that came afterwards? What does it mean for the finale to come full circle to the beginning? We're finally almost ready to watch the first film, 2001's The Fast and the Furious. Continuing our exploration of the origins of the franchise, we turn this episode to a film we knew very little about going in-- Justin Lin's 2002 film Better Luck Tomorrow. Mainly known to Fastheads as the origin of Sung Kang's character Han Lue, we didn't really know what to expect going into this movie. We were, generally speaking, pleasantly surprised by this very early work of Justin Lin's, and it left us with a lot to think about-- both in terms of the messages and themes of the film itself, as well as-- somewhat complicatedly-- how it relates to the broader Fast Saga.

The tone and content of this episode is a little different than what we normally do on this show, and in addition to discussing some heavier-than-usual topics we were unable to avoid spoilers in our discussion past a certain point.
