  • Early Recognition of Sepsis: Save Lives Before ICU Referral | A Practical Guide for Clinicians
    2026/08/05

Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency where every minute counts. In this episode, we explore how clinicians can recognize sepsis early, initiate timely treatment, and improve patient outcomes before ICU referral. We discuss the Sepsis-3 definition, early warning signs, screening tools including qSOFA, NEWS2, SOFA, and SIRS, the first-hour management bundle, lactate measurement, antibiotics, fluid resuscitation, vasopressors, source control, and common pitfalls in diagnosis. • "Critical Care Insights: Advancing the Management of Subdural Hematomas"
    2024/11/18
In this episode, we’re diving into subdural hematomas—an important condition where blood collects between the layers of the brain. We’ll explain what they are and the differences between acute subdural hematomas (aSDH) and chronic subdural hematomas (cSDH). You’ll learn about what causes them, who’s at risk, and how they’re treated today. For acute subdural hematomas, surgery often plays a life-saving role, especially in emergencies. But when it comes to chronic subdural hematomas, treatment has become more advanced and personalized. We’ll discuss new medical options like statins and tranexamic acid that are showing promise. Plus, we’ll introduce an exciting development—middle meningeal artery embolization (or MMAe). This minimally invasive procedure is changing how we manage chronic cases, and we’ll explore how it works, how safe it is, and why it might be better than traditional surgery for some patients. .

  • Ep 115:-"Advanced Resuscitation in the ICU-Exploring E-CPR Extracorporeal CPR for Cardiac Arrest"
    2024/11/10
Welcome to today’s episode 115, where we’ll be exploring the role of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or ECPR, in 2023. We’ll look at the findings from a recent review published in *Intensive Care Medicine Experimental*, which covers the history, current practices, and the unique challenges involved with ECPR. To start, we’ll break down what ECPR is and why it’s used, especially in cases of refractory cardiac arrest when conventional CPR just isn’t enough. We’ll discuss how ECPR works, including the key procedures and techniques involved in setting up this advanced life-support option, with a focus on cannulation methods and choosing the right patients for this intervention. As with any intensive treatment, ECPR comes with risks. We’ll discuss some of the potential complications, like clotting, tissue ischemia, and post-resuscitation syndrome. Then, we’ll turn to the evidence on how ECPR impacts patient survival and neurological outcomes—what the current research shows and where questions remain. In the end, while ECPR is an advanced and resource-intensive procedure, the potential for it to improve outcomes in specific cardiac arrest cases is promising. This episode will help shed light on where ECPR stands today and the ongoing research aimed at understanding its full potential. Let’s get started!
