    Cy-Hawk disappointment: Men & women come up short in Ames

    Both the Hawkeye men and women's basketball teams came up short in tough, hard fought matches on the road in the Cy-Hawk match. Jan Jensen's squad was down 17 late in the third quarter but was able to claw back into the game in the fourth and make it a 3 point game with a few minutes left. A Taylor McCabe 3 to tie it was blocked without a foul call. The men started off hot and led for most of the first half, but a devastating 16-0 Cyclone run to start the second half all but doomed the Hawks from a massive road upset. Iowa did make it tough, coming within 2 points in the final minute, but a missed chance at a turnover, a defensive rebound and then a foul in the final seconds sealed the win for Iowa State.     Iowa beat Nebraska 40-16 on Black Friday, marking the Hawks 7th straight win against the Huskers in Lincoln, the largest winning streak against Nebraska since Oklahoma won 8 in row there from 1943-57. Mark Gronowski threw for 166 and a touchdown, adding 64 rushing yards and another two rushing TDs. The defense stiffened up after allowing Emmett Johnson to 177 yards in the first half. Mark Gronowski completed some clutch passes and threw for 117 of his 147 yards in the final quarter, including one touchdown pass to Jacob Gill.
