What if the thing you're desperately trying to stop doing has been trying to give you something else you genuinely need?

As I approach nine years sober, I'm looking back at what alcohol once represented to me

long before I realized I'm AuDHD, Alcohol was my wing woman. It quieted the constant self-monitoring, made socializing feel easier, and for a long time felt less like a poison and more like medicine.

Getting sober required me to recognize what alcohol was actually costing me. But but to be able to give it up after several failed attempts it required understanding that the needs underneath my drinking—connection, acceptance, belonging, relief—weren't the problem. I needed to find new ways to meet them.

In this episode of Embodied Magic, I'm exploring what my experience with alcohol taught me about self-love, shame, and lasting change. We talk about why understanding a behavior doesn't mean endorsing it, why compassion still requires boundaries, and what it might look like to become someone your own inner world can trust.

Because the parts of us holding onto old ways don't necessarily need more punishment.

They need leadership.

And leadership in love, not in a dictatorship.

Content note: This episode includes discussion of alcohol use and recovery and a brief mention of suicidal thoughts. I share my own lived experience for educational purposes; this episode is not addiction or mental-health treatment, and coaching and hypnosis are not substitutes for appropriate medical or psychological care.
