For Suicide Prevention Month, Change Happened, Then What? returns to Lisa Sugarman’s story.
Lisa was ten years old when her father died. For the next 35 years, she believed he had suffered a heart attack. Then an ordinary conversation with her mother revealed the truth: her father had died by suicide.
That discovery forced Lisa to grieve him all over again and reconsider beliefs she had carried for decades. In this Encore episode, Lisa talks about grief, anger, her mother’s years of silence, continuing bonds with the people we lose, and the advocacy work she was already doing when Heather first spoke with her.
Lisa is also co-host of The Survivors Podcast, where conversations about suicide, trauma, grief, mental health, and survival continue.
