Almost two years ago, I was a BookTok girl who loved fantasy and romance novels. Then I saw an Instagram reel that made me angry—not necessarily because I thought she was wrong, but because deep down, I knew there was truth in what she was saying.
In this episode, I’m sharing a part of my story that requires me to be pretty open and vulnerable. What started as conviction over sexually explicit content eventually revealed something much deeper about my heart: what I was filling my mind with, what was getting so much of my time and attention, and how unwilling I initially was to surrender something I loved.
We’ll talk about the difference between simply enjoying fiction and allowing something to become an idol, whether sexually explicit books can affect our hearts in ways similar to pornography, and why I eventually had to stop asking, “Am I allowed to do this?” and start asking better questions:
Is this glorifying God? What is this producing in me? What appetite is it cultivating? And if God asked me to surrender it, would I be willing? This isn’t about creating a list of books Christian women can and cannot read. It’s about examining what is shaping our minds—and what we do when God brings conviction.
Nearly two years later, I can see the fruit of repentance, and more than anything, I’m thankful that God didn’t leave my heart where it was.

My prayer is that together we can become women whose minds are shaped by God’s Word instead of by the world around us.
