Whoever said the journey to motherhood was a straight path clearly never had to decipher an expired pregnancy test or navigate the labyrinth of fertility treatments. Join us, Jade and Katie, as we swap tales from the trenches of pregnancy symptoms and trying to conceive. We're here to provide dubious advice, hot and lukewarm takes, and a feminist perspective on pregnancy and parenting. Whether you're in the throes of your own pregnancy odyssey, cheering from the sidelines, or just here for a good story and a laugh, pull up a chair. We're glad to have you along for the ride!

(Please be lovingly advised that WE ARE NOT MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS and are not providing any medical or legal advice of any kind. We are just a couple of women talking about our experiences as honestly as possible.)

  • Episode 4: Eating Disorder Horror Stories Part 2, Katie's Story
    2024/04/11

Again, this episode comes with a BIG FAT TRIGGER WARNING: Jade and Katie are sharing their experiences with body dysmorphia and eating disorders. Content is throughout the episode. Also, this one is really long so just strap in or fast forward through some parts if you want to - we won't know. :)

We start the episode with the mental torture that was media commentary on women in the public eye in the 90s and 2000s - Britney Spears and Monica Lewinsky should be entitled to millions for the bullshit they endured at the hands of Jay Leno and other "comedians." Katie describes how the toxic standards set by shows like "Friends" had lasting effects on what she thought she was supposed to look like growing up, and how long it has taken to work towards body neutrality and self-love.

Jade and Katie also talk about the flawed metrics like BMI that have long dictated health perceptions, and how being fat has changed our interactions with the healthcare system.

Katie shares her 20-plus-years of eating disorder symptoms, including some eye-opening insights from a summer in France that was the first attempt at eating disorder recovery. We're pretty candid about how our eating disorders have morphed, and how relapse is TOO easy. But we do end on an upbeat note - through this conversation, we came up with lots of insight about the process of finding peace with our bodies, facing our fears, and healing. Fuck diet culture! Eat food! Take up space!!!!! We love you!

  • Episode 3: Eating Disorder Horror Stories Part 1, Jade's Story
    2024/02/27

This episode comes with a BIG FAT TRIGGER WARNING: Jade and Katie are sharing their experiences with body dysmorphia and eating disorders. That content begins at the 21 minute mark. We also discuss pregnancy loss and PCOS.

In very obvious but still a HUGE bummer news, eating disorders don't take a break during pregnancy. This episode, Jade describes her WAY TOO EARLY descent into food restriction and mommy-daughter diet buddy behaviors. She also talks about her weird blood sugar stuff and the cruel ignorance of doctors and other medical professionals. We have a brutally honest discussion about how even though both of us are proud of the progress we've made, trying to get pregnant and the body changes that come with pregnancy are rife with potential regressions. Katie describes why she prefers the phrase "in recovery" to "recovered from" an eating disorder.

The non-ED content includes more discussion of food cravings, current symptoms and feelings, and the incredible joy that 18-week baby kicks bring. (The feet are the size of QUARTERS! SO. CUTE!)

Thanks for going on this harrowing journey with us - we'd love to hear your story or experiences with body issues during pregnancy via email at hello@ibegyourpartumpod.com. We want to read your letters in a follow-up episode soon!

  • Episode 2: Symptoms Circus, Or, A Detailed Description of Everything We Can Actually Stand to Eat
    2024/02/20

In this episode, Jade and Katie give their opinions on nausea-friendly and unfriendly foods, provide you with too much information about our digestive issues (Progesterone is the ENEMY, and Zofran has gross side effects), and discuss The Bump's list of weird, wacky pregnancy symptoms. (Including unchecked hair growth, "lightning crotch," and excessive drool.) The Boys discuss the evolving role of dads in the delivery room and plan what kind of cigar they'll bring to the birth (jokes).

Katie has extreme giggle disease throughout this episode, since the lack of calories has apparently made her go completely bananas, but has learned not to laugh DIRECTLY into the microphone, for the most part. You're welcome, eardrums.

Jade makes Katie laugh really hard, schools The Boys on infant poop-tracking apps, and waxes poetic on the delights of yogurt, dates, and fruit. She also has perfect skin and eyebrows.

We also introduce a terrible (but also terribly informative) segment we like to call "Pat's Pervert Corner." You get to learn what a vagina pump is! It's a doozy - thank you for sticking with us. Email us with your favorite and/or most memorable pregnancy foods at hello@ibegyourpartumpod.com! We'll discuss them in a later episode!
