The hardest day of the trip: a herd of bulls treats a routine pass-through as a threat and pursues the sisters off-trail across open mountain slopes, no cover, real fear. Two more passes and a 15,000-plus foot summit later, the day turns around entirely at a meadow of fifty to a hundred alpacas right at sunset.
