Gen Z’s in the UK are facing the toughest start to adult life than any generation in half a century, with key financial milestones like leaving home, buying a property and starting a family becoming even harder to achieve. In addition, millions of graduates are grappling with repaying student loans in a tough jobs market. Ahead of the government’s October Budget, how can the finances of Gen Z be fixed?

In a podcast recorded live at the FT Weekend Festival, the FT’s consumer editor Claer Barret is joined by Oliver Gardner, founder of the student loans campaign group Rethink Repayment and Abigail Foster, the former accountant turned financial educator and author, debating whether the new prime minister can “bring back hope” for younger generations.

Plus, there’s career advice from Tolani Talks Money, the investment industry professional who went public about her six-figure salary and bonus on social media, investment tips from professional trader Michael Taylor, better known online as Shifting Shares, and property and savings strategies from Brian Byrnes, director of personal finance at MoneyBox.
