After more than two years of breastfeeding on demand and co-sleeping with my son, we recently came to the end of our nursing journey. In this solo episode, I’m sharing our experience with gentle weaning, the emotions that came with it, and what it means to honor both our children’s needs and our own.
Breastfeeding was so much more than nourishment for us. It was comfort, connection, and a familiar source of emotional regulation. As I began recognizing my own need for change, I found myself navigating the complexities of weaning while staying true to my values of responsive parenting and secure attachment.
I reflect on extended breastfeeding, night nursing, co-sleeping, and the process of creating new rhythms while maintaining connection. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, but an honest look at the challenges, lessons, and grace that can come with this transition.
Whether you’re considering weaning, navigating night nursing, or reflecting on your own journey, I hope this conversation reminds you that your needs matter, too—and that the connection you’ve built with your child doesn’t end when breastfeeding does. It simply takes new forms.
💛 I’d love to hear from you: Where are you on your breastfeeding or weaning journey, and what has the experience been like for you?
