I filmed my own surprise proposal using DJI Osmo cameras, Sony cameras, POV footage, photographers, and a full video crew. I only had one chance to get it right.

In this video, I break down exactly how I filmed one of the most important moments of my life, from documenting the making of the engagement ring to capturing the actual proposal live during a fashion show.

Because there are no retakes with moments like this, I wanted enough camera coverage to make sure we didn’t miss anything. I used the DJI Osmo Pocket series for vlogging and talking-head footage, the DJI Osmo Nano for a first-person POV angle, photographers for additional perspectives, and Sony cameras for the more cinematic shots.

I also share why the Sony FX30 has become one of my go-to cameras for music videos and larger productions, and where smaller cameras like the DJI Osmo Pocket make more sense for everyday content creation, travel, and vlogging.

But the biggest takeaway isn’t about buying more camera gear.

After years of filmmaking and creating content, I’ve learned that the best camera is usually the one you actually have with you. Whether that’s a cinema camera, an action camera, a small vlogging camera, or simply your phone, what matters is being ready to capture the moment.

You don’t need the perfect filmmaking setup to start creating.
