This is Part 2 of The Pathway To Prison Series on The Warrior Medic.

Last week we named the pipeline — the direct link between childhood trauma and incarceration. This week we go deeper. Because the pipeline doesn't build itself. It builds one behavior at a time. One wound response at a time.

In this episode Bill Anderson walks through the three primary behavioral expressions of childhood trauma in men — fear, rage, and avoidance — and traces each one back to its root in the wound.

Fear becomes hypervigilance — a man whose alarm system never learned it was safe to turn off.

Rage becomes the only safe emotion — because the boy who learned that vulnerability gets you hurt converts everything into anger. Men who experienced childhood abuse are four times more likely to meet the criteria for uncontrollable rage episodes.

Avoidance becomes addiction — because the only thing that ever quieted the wound was something chemical. This is not a moral failure. This is neuroscience.

None of these are character defects. They are wound responses. And a wound response — when finally named — can finally begin to be healed.

Key Question of the Episode:
What happened to you? Not — what is wrong with you. What happened to you? Because that question changes everything about how we understand the man in front of us.

Key Statistics:

  • Men who experienced childhood abuse are 4x more likely to have uncontrollable rage episodes
  • The neurological connection between childhood trauma and substance use disorder is documented — it occurs through impacts on brain development
  • Two out of three men released from prison are rearrested within three years — primarily due to untreated trauma driving the same behaviors

Key Scripture:
Romans 7:15 — I do not do what I want to do. But what I hate — that I do.
