The NHL is seriously considering a new team in Houston, with a six-month evaluation set to conclude in December—potentially reshaping the Central Division. Backed by a major investment from the Friedkin family and fueled by key hires like Marcel Braithwaite (formerly of the Astros), who’s now leading the Penguins and likely to push for Houston, the city is also rallying behind the bid. With Mayor John Whitmire pledging support and infrastructure readiness, Houston could soon become a new rival for the Avalanche—and the league’s vote in December might just be the tipping point.
