Pastor Patrick Dailey preaches “Hosanna to the King” from John 12:12–19: a standalone Palm Sunday sermon at Ontario Community Church in Ontario Oregon.

John’s Gospel gives us the one detail no other account does: Lazarus is there. The man Jesus raised from the dead is walking beside Him into Jerusalem. The crowd hears about it and floods the street with palm branches, crying Hosanna, “Save us, we pray.” On the surface they wanted the miracle-worker. But deeper, they were asking for salvation without knowing the weight of their own prayer. The Pharisees panicked, they made plans to kill Lazarus, to destroy the evidence rather than submit to the King. And the disciples? They didn’t understand any of it until after the resurrection. They needed Easter to understand Palm Sunday.
