  • A Hard Habit to Break
    2026/10/06

A smooth-talking hero is easy to write until you make him loyal to a fault. We’re joined by Sierra London, a Navy veteran, pediatric nurse practitioner, and prolific romance author, to unpack the choices behind A Hard Habit To Break and the larger Calvary Brothers series. From writing her first novel in 15-minute lunch-break sprints to becoming a hybrid author with traditionally published releases, Sierra makes the creative process feel both possible and personal.

We talk about representation in contemporary romance in a way that actually gets specific. Sierra explains why Rachel is a Black heroine who is very fair-skinned, red-haired, and freckled, why she “claims her Blackness” without apology, and how identity and community shape what love looks like on the page. We also get into Petey as a true villain, the difference between a fan and a friend, and why some characters are not meant to be redeemed.

Then we go behind the scenes on craft and publishing: how Sierra handles challenging comments, what changes when you move from indie publishing freedom into the traditional publishing space, and how to decide what backstory belongs in your head versus on the page. Sierra also shares what she’s reading, why audiobooks became a shared habit at home, and where to grab the Calvary Brothers books in ebook, large print, and audio. We close with her upcoming anthology To Vivian With Love, supporting legendary editor Vivian Stephens.

  • Toronto In A Weekend
    2026/08/28

We didn’t expect Canada to feel so close and so different at the same time. One quick drive later, we’re in Toronto learning real fast that vacation math is real: gas is sold in liters, temperatures run on Celsius, and even everyday products show up with English and French on the label. That small stuff became part of the adventure, especially once we realized how much a simple border crossing can wake up your curiosity.

Toronto gave us a mix of surprises. The city felt noticeably clean, but the roads still came with potholes that kept us humble. The energy stayed active all day, from traffic to the constant hustle, and the cold weather in April caught us off guard enough to turn gloves into a highlight. We also talk about what it’s like to travel as a group, why good company matters, and how the vibe changes when you’re experiencing a place together.

Then we get into the fun part: food and discoveries. We run through our Tim Hortons experience, a maple syrup tasting we’d gladly do again, and the snack aisle finds that made Walmart feel like a tourist stop. If you’ve got 48 hours in Canada, we share our must-dos, including Niagara Falls on the Canada side, Graffiti Alley, and catching a live sporting event for the full Toronto travel experience.

  • The Delgado Series Character Draft With Spoilers
    2026/05/18

A book series that runs this long should not be this hard to stop, and yet here we are. We sit down to talk the Delgado Series by Jaquel J and the real reason it has us hooked: characters you can’t predict, family dynamics that keep evolving, and humor that cuts through even the most serious storylines. We also give a quick spoiler warning, because once you start naming favorites and least favorites, the truth slips out.

We dig into what makes the series so bingeable across “seasons,” including how cliffhangers mess with your patience and why listening on audiobook can make the jokes land even harder. Then we get honest about the characters who get on our nerves, the ones we secretly root for anyway, and the way your opinion can flip once the layers get revealed. We also talk about the parents, because the books don’t leave them as background characters. As the story opens up, their flaws and past choices become part of the plot, and that adds a surprising amount of realism.

From there we debate the wild cards: who makes us feel unsettled, who moves like a chess player, and who has secrets we think have not fully surfaced yet. We also get into relationship pressure points, including which women challenge their partners the most and why those scenes feel like real conversations about identity, work, and power in a marriage. If you want character-driven urban fiction with sharp dialogue, messy loyalty, and laugh-out-loud moments, this conversation is for you.

Subscribe for more book and culture debates, share this with a friend who loves long series, and leave a review so more listeners can find us. Who is your favorite Delgado character right now?
