Virginia Tech aims to snap a three-game losing streak against Power Four foes since 2017 as they head to College Park for a big test against Maryland. Despite dominating weaker opponents with a 117-24 scoring edge, their wins over Old Dominion and VMI raise questions about true competitiveness. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has thrown for over 500 yards and four TDs, but his offense relies heavily on short passes—only four deep throws over 20 yards. The Hokies also struggled against Old Dominion’s defense, giving up 10 tackles for loss and four sacks, while their offensive line faces injury woes with the starting center out and a guard ejected. Can they sustain drives without fourth-down gambles? And can Grunkemeyer stretch the field against Maryland’s tougher defense? This game reveals whether Virginia Tech’s flashy stats translate into real championship-caliber performance.
