 Welcome back to Herm’s House, where the Hero Walk is two weeks out and Herm has the pace math to prove he’s ready: 16 to 18 minutes a mile, and he will absolutely walk at your pace. (He will also leave you. It depends on the moment.) We’ve got the final details: Saturday, November 7, 8:00 AM at The Station Pub & Grill in Marana, 11 miles with stops at Waste Management, Nana’s Kitchen, and Jeremiah’s Italian Ice. Walk one leg or walk it all — Kristin will be driving alongside in the Expedition, and hopping in is fully allowed. Shirts are finalized, a few sponsor spots are still open, and veteran resource tables are free.Then it’s time for the saddest Herm’s Football Minute yet. The Vail Vikings Purple got knocked out of the playoffs, 28 to nothing against the best team in the city… and we need to talk about that first touchdown, because the flag was pulled, the other team’s sideline agreed the flag was pulled, and it should have been 0–0. The boys held the #1 team nearly scoreless, got compliments from their coaches AND their referee, and their seven-year-old quarterback rolled down the window to tell us we had a squad. We lost, but it felt like Friday Night Lights. Oh, and Texas lost. And the Cowboys lost. Everybody lost.Also in this one: our oldest boy’s homecoming game in freezing wind (his girlfriend refused Herm’s jacket because she’d rather be cute), his best friend Logan winning Homecoming King with a hit so hard the ball popped loose, and Gordy pulling a flag on one of the fastest kids in the city — after pulling his first flag EVER earlier this season. Full circle.Then the whole crew took over the Marana Pumpkin Patch for Ava’s 5th birthday: a real field, a tractor ride, an apple cannon, and a pumpkin so big Herm carried it like a baby. Dinner after came with a party of 11, a great pizookie debate, and a full investigation into the couple at the next table: first date… or fight?Plus: the teenagers loose in the corn maze (the George Bush game is exactly what it sounds like), Kristin’s teenage desert party that ended with a helicopter, last-minute cruise packing chaos, and Herm’s plan to keep training for the Hero Walk by walking the cruise ship deck.
