  • The Brown Diaries Mother/Daughter Talk: So We’re Looking for Husbands Now?
    2026/08/13

We were supposed to be recapping her first days at Brown Pre-College but somehow, we ended up discussing a boy and talking about my 15-year-old's HUSBAND list. 😂

    So naturally, we had questions:

Do you sit next to him?

    Make the first move?

    Play it cool?

How do you show someone you’re interested without doing entirely too much?

What started as a Brown recap turned into a whole conversation about crushes, chemistry, planting seeds, knowing what you want. Now let's see in the next 2 weeks whether Mama’s dating advice still holds up.

Either way, apparently, we’re looking for husbands at Brown now. Enjoy!

  • The Wealth Degree of Separation
    2026/07/18

I posted a thread, " She Just Needed to Be Her Full Authentic Self, " about my daughter not feeling like herself at an Ivy League school.

The story that reached so many people wasn't where this journey began.

It was where one very long day ended.

The conversation you're about to hear was recorded earlier that day, before my daughter called asking if she could spend the night with me. At the time, I knew she was processing a difficult classroom discussion. What I didn't realize was just how deeply it had affected her.

In this episode, we talk about what it feels like to be one of the few students in the room whose understanding of poverty comes from lived experience instead of observation. We discuss privilege, public health policy, belonging, and the emotional weight of walking into spaces where you sometimes wonder if you have to leave pieces of yourself behind just to fit in.

This conversation isn't about criticizing one school or one classroom.

It's about asking a much bigger question:

How do we create policies for people if we've never truly understood the lives they're living?

I hope you'll listen with an open heart.

And if this conversation resonates with you, I'd love for you to leave a comment. I'd especially love to hear from those of you who have ever walked into a room and questioned whether you belonged there.

    Your stories matter too.

    Thank you for being here.

  • What My Teenage Daughter Wants Parents to Understand
    2026/07/03

In this episode of Hello Me, It's Me, I'm joined by my youngest daughter, Amiyah, for one of our most honest conversations yet.

Together, we dive into what it's really like growing up in today's teen culture from the pressure to jump into relationships quickly, to how social media has changed the way teenagers view love, sex, commitment, and self-worth.

We talk openly about why so many young people lose themselves in relationships before they've had the chance to discover who they are, how confidence changes the choices we make, and what healthy love should actually feel like.

This isn't a lecture. It's a real conversation between a mother and her teen daughter about the questions many families are already facing but often aren't talking about.

Whether you're raising a teenager, navigating dating yourself, or simply trying to understand the world young people are growing up in today, this conversation offers perspective, honesty, and plenty to think about.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • Why teens often rush into relationships
    • The pressure created by social media and online dating culture
    • Teenage sex culture and changing expectations
    • Building self-worth before building a relationship
    • What healthy love actually looks like
    • Why you should never lose yourself trying to keep someone else

The walk away? Healthy love doesn't ask you to become less of yourself; it gives you more freedom to become who you already are.

If this episode resonates with you, share it with another parent or a teenager who needs to hear this conversation.
