Hello Darkness, My Old Friend
We grieve the people we lose. We also grieve the life we wanted, and the life we thought we had.
When it hurts, the mind starts searching. What did I miss? What could I have done differently? We revisit the story, hoping to find another ending.
In this episode, I explore grief, self-blame, and the Buddhist teaching of the second arrow: the suffering we add when we turn against ourselves. I draw on Tara Brach’s Radical Acceptance, Ram Dass’s teachings on loving awareness, and psychology’s understanding of counterfactual thinking and neuroplasticity.
Alongside these teachings, I share my spiritual perspective through Reiki, shamanic healing, and a quantum lens of possibility and connection. How do we welcome the disconnected parts of ourselves home? How do we become the love that meets the ache?
We cannot out-spiritual life. We can welcome ourselves back, and it can still hurt. We are allowed to be human. In fact, I have learned the more truly spiritually aware I become, the more accepting of my human nature I become.
This podcast closes with a five-minute guided meditation, Hello Darkness, My Old Friend, to meet what’s here with your true essence, compassion and loving kindness.
