The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Michigan State Spartans 38-37 in overtime, securing a crucial Big Ten victory despite quarterback Katin Houser suffering a broken left hand. Hudson Clement caught the game-winning touchdown pass on the first play of overtime, while kicker Ethan Moczulski nailed three field goals including the decisive extra points. James Kreutz led the defense with 15 tackles and a sack, helping secure a vital two-point conversion stop.

Key performers included running back Aidan Laughery with 70 rushing yards and a reception, and wide receiver Hudson Clement with six receptions for 105 yards and the go-ahead score. Michigan State’s Jaziun Patterson rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while Alessio Milivojevic passed for 196 yards. The win moves Illinois to 3-3 overall and 12th in the Big Ten standings.

The Illini now face the Oregon Ducks on October 24th at home. With Houser out indefinitely, backup options include Carson Boyd, Michael Clayton II, and Dane Eisenmenger. Analysts discuss how the offensive line and new quarterback can manage Oregon’s explosive offense. Expect a physical battle where special teams and defensive discipline will likely decide the outcome.
