“The wicked earn deceptive wages” sounds like a warning about cash, but what if Solomon is talking about something closer to home: the way we live when we stop listening to God? We sit in Proverbs 11:18–19 and follow the contrast between a payout that looks good today and a reward that stays true tomorrow. The language gets practical fast: wickedness treats life like a transaction, righteousness treats it like cultivation. One closes the deal now. The other plants, waits, and trusts “due time” for the harvest.

From there, we zoom out to the Bible’s bigger storyline of sowing and reaping, pulling threads from Galatians 6, Hosea 10, and James 3. Then we take an unexpected turn into what “righteousness” actually means. Abraham is called righteous before the Law because God speaks, Abraham believes, and his feet move. Solomon’s own request in 1 Kings 3 is the same heartbeat: not more information, but a hearing heart. That reframes wisdom as a relationship, not a library, and it forces a gut-check on how often we lean on our own understanding and label it “discernment.”

We also challenge the way many of us define eternal life. Peter says Jesus has words of eternal life right now, and Jesus defines eternal life as knowing God in the present tense. That makes the two-envelope thought experiment sting: would you choose a lottery ticket or the ability to hear God clearly and obey for the rest of your life? If eternal life starts now, that choice isn’t theoretical.
