Healthcare Uprising

著者: Heather Pierce and Jeremy Carr
  • サマリー

  • This interview-based podcast shares stories and perspectives from TWO sides of the healthcare universe to tell a story: First, we seek to shine a light on the movers, shakers, and innovators across the healthcare industry. This includes everything from the tech and digital-based startups providing care and services to patients, to the academics and the medical researchers changing healthcare from inside our educational institutions, to the clinical, biomedical, and medical equipment organizations bringing innovation to our homes, phones and doctor’s offices. It gives a platform to those who are helping to change how healthcare is accessed, delivered, and experienced, for so many Americans. And secondly and equally as important, to truly add the human side of healthcare to this podcast, we’re weaving in real stories about real people who have had not-so-great, and maybe even some really great, experiences, on their healthcare journeys. In the end our goal, as much as possible, is to tell stories about many aspects of healthcare from a variety of vantage points, building a deeper understanding, appreciation of, and empathy for both the patients and the experiences of everyday Americans and how, hopefully, the US healthcare industry is addressing and improving it day-by-day. What’s especially unique about this podcast is that you have a healthcare industry veteran coupled with an average American to bring levity, authenticity, and a ”real” human perspective to these conversations so they don’t get too clinical, too in the weeds or complex that you have no idea what we’re talking about. This podcast is for everyone who cares about healthcare. Also available in video format on YouTube and Patreon!

After our episode 6 conversation with the Art Pharmacy in the U.S., we knew we had to speak with Deb Alma from the Poetry Pharmacy in London and Shropshire, England when we saw her on NBC Morning News.

Poetry, often seen as a fading art, has the power to heal by addressing a range of emotions—sadness, grief, change, growth, learning, and loss. Deb took this concept and transformed it into something truly alive and accessible to anyone in need. Many forms of art, including reading or writing poetry, play a crucial role in mental healing, aligning with the idea of “social prescribing”—the practice of using creative expression, whether through music, painting, or poetry, as a therapeutic tool. The Poetry Pharmacy has done just that.
