Episode 2 — When Providing Wasn't Enough I thought being a good man meant providing.
Work hard. Pay the bills. Take care of the family. Carry the weight. Keep going.
But somewhere along the way, providing became a substitute for presence.
In this episode of Healing the Masculine: A Light Warrior’s Journey, I look honestly at the man I used to be—the stress I carried home, the ways I learned to escape what I didn’t know how to feel, and the distance that slowly developed between me and the people I loved most.
Military service and deployments taught me how to be gone. Work taught me how to measure my worth by what I accomplished. Pornography and alcohol gave me places to escape when I didn’t know what to do with what I was feeling.
And through all of it, I could still tell myself:
I’m providing for my family.
But providing isn’t the same thing as being present.
This episode is about beginning to understand that difference.
It’s about emotional absence, coping, shame, disconnection, fatherhood, accountability—and what happens when you finally become curious about the behaviors you once judged yourself for.
Not to excuse them.
To understand them.
Because healing the masculine isn’t about becoming a different man.
It’s about becoming present enough to finally meet the man who was underneath all of it.
