概要
Cold to the touch and full, a ceramic mug sat undisturbed on the Rimrock Shelf lookout railing at 6:59 a.m. on July 9, 2019, despite gusts up to 14 mph - and the man who lived in the tower was gone. A pair of boots remained on the mat, a radio hummed, and a desk ring matched the mug’s base exactly: how did Michael Cook leave the cab barefoot and never return?
In this episode, we follow the sequence of documented facts from the last night and the first morning at Rimrock Shelf, laying out what was found in the tower, the timeline of Cook's final entries and movements, and the terrain that turned routine into catastrophe. What did he see on the northwest edge of the basalt shelf that led him to step out barefoot and away?
Person: Michael Cook
Date: July 9, 2019
Location: Rimrock Shelf fire lookout, Tanner County
Status: Missing after fall into Pinto Wash
