On the evening of January 27, 1994, 29-year-old biology researcher Didier Seignole left football practice in Lacropte, Dordogne, and never reached his parents’ home in La Douze. His blue Seat was later found near an abandoned farm, while witnesses reported seeing the vehicle stopped nearby. There were also reports of possible gunshots in the area.
For years, the investigation produced few answers. Didier’s family continued pressing for information, and in 2023 the case was transferred to France’s national cold-case unit in Nanterre.
In 2025, prosecutors opened a formal judicial investigation for kidnapping and unlawful confinement. Investigators reportedly focused on a now-deceased local municipal worker known as “Cacali”, examining whether Didier had been deliberately ambushed because of a neighborhood dispute.
In June 2026, three men connected to that circle were detained for questioning before being released without charges. Investigators also conducted further searches, including activity at the cemetery in La Douze.
The crucial distinction is between confirmed procedural developments, investigative theories, and facts that remain unproven. Publicly available information does not establish exactly what happened to Didier or whether the suspected conflict explains his disappearance.
