In this thought-provoking instalment of our Opposites series, we explore one of the most divisive topics in modern society: politics.

Is God right-wing or left-wing? Would Jesus fit neatly into any political party, or does the Kingdom of God operate on an entirely different level?

As political divisions deepen and competing voices grow louder, we consider what it means to follow Jesus above every ideology. The central challenge of this message is simple but uncomfortable: God's Word is a two-edged sword. It doesn't just expose the flaws in their side; it cuts both ways. It challenges the left and the right. It confronts their assumptions and ours. It rebukes, corrects, and trains all of us.

Rather than asking God to endorse our views, perhaps the better question is: are we willing to let God critique them? A timely message.

In our next message in our “Opposites” series, we explore the tension between God being unchanging yet deeply responsive. Scripture reveals a God who is steadfast, faithful, and utterly consistent - the same yesterday, today, and forever. Unlike shifting shadows or unreliable people, God’s character, promises, and love never change. Yet throughout the Bible we also see a God who listens, responds, grieves, rejoices, and moves through relationship and prayer. From Moses interceding for Israel to Abraham pleading for Sodom, we discover a God who is immovably faithful yet relationally engaged. Together, these truths remind us that our God is both completely trustworthy and wonderfully personal - steadfast in character, responsive in heart.

In the first of our "opposites" series, we explore two opposite pictures of God found throughout the Bible - the roaring Lion of Judah and the sacrificial Lamb. We delve into scripture and see a God who is described as a lion - who roars in judgement, who confronts sin, who defends his people and who roars to call his people back to Him. But we also see a God who is like a lamb - who stood silently in our place, carried our sin, saved his people and draws us near. Together, these images reveal a God who is strong enough to judge yet loving enough to save — gloriously, wonderfully both.
