  • Paws That Smell Like Pineapple
    2026/10/15

Do you ever wonder if you're a little too attached to your fur baby, or whether the things you do for them might look completely ridiculous to everyone else?

Coco is sharing some of her secrets in this playful and deeply personal episode, from analyzing Mana's poop and smelling her paws to cooking specialized meals, buying expensive snowsuits, planning her days around her, and giving the cats their very own bedroom.

But underneath the funny and sometimes wonderfully weird things Coco does for her fur babies is a bigger realization: she no longer feels the need to explain the relationship she has with them.

Whether Coco & Mana are taking slow, phone-free walks, sharing their daily routines, stopping for every interesting smell, or spending nearly every hour together, Coco has stopped worrying about whether their relationship looks normal from the outside.

Because perhaps the relationship we have with our furbabies doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else. Maybe it’s about knowing the little being in front of us—paying attention, listening, making mistakes, learning, and trusting ourselves enough to love them exactly as they are.

And somewhere in loving them that freely, maybe we give ourselves a little more freedom, too.

What This May Open Up for You:

    • Why our relationship with our furbaby doesn’t have to look “normal” to anyone else.
    • How comparison can make us question what we already know about the animal in front of us.
    • Why socialization doesn’t necessarily mean every dog needs to become a social butterfly.
    • What can change when we stop trying to be the “right” kind of pet parent and start trusting the relationship we actually have.
    • How loving our furbabies freely might give us permission to like ourselves a little more, too.

  • Who Are You Becoming Because You Love Your Pet?
    2026/10/08
Who are you becoming because you love your pet?Coco sits down with her son Joe, an actor, director, writer, and photojournalist in Los Angeles, for a heartfelt family conversation about his relationship with Aela, the independent black cat who came into his life during COVID.When Joe adopted Aela, he imagined having a cuddly little cat who would happily spend hours sitting on his lap. Instead, he got Aela, a social, intelligent, playful, fiercely independent cat with her own ideas about affection, attention, and exactly how life should work.Over six years together, Joe has learned to recognize Aela's unique ways of communicating and to look beyond behavior to consider what she might be needing. He's also learned to let go of his expectations and appreciate the relationship they actually have rather than trying to turn Aela into the cuddly lap cat he originally imagined.Their relationship has changed Joe, too. Caring for another life means coming home when he'd rather stay out, planning around feeding times, thinking about Aela while traveling, and putting her needs ahead of his own convenience. Alongside living independently and his martial arts practice, Joe credits caring for Aela with strengthening his discipline, maturity, and sense of responsibility. But as the conversation becomes more personal, Coco and Joe discover something deeper. Maybe love doesn’t always change us into someone new. Sometimes it gives us room to become more fully who we already are—and allows the people who love us to see what may have been there all along.Ultimately, Coco turns the question around. Instead of always asking how our animals are changing because of us, what might we discover if we notice who we are becoming because we love them? What This May Open Up for You:Why loving an animal doesn't mean they have to become the pet you imagined they would be.How learning your pet's individual ways of communicating can help you look beyond frustrating behavior to what they may need in that moment. Why releasing expectations can create more room to appreciate your animal's unique personality. How caring for another life can strengthen responsibility, discipline, patience, and maturity. The possibility that love doesn’t always make us someone new—it may help reveal more of who we already are.Why love sometimes means making room for another being to be exactly who they are.About Josef “Joe” Akira: Josef “Joe” Akira is a first-generation Japanese American actor, director, and photojournalist living in Santa Monica, California. With roots in photojournalism, he describes his creative style as minimalistic and aesthetic, with an emphasis on capturing honest, authentic moments. • When Loving Your Dog Isn’t Always Easy
    2026/10/01
Have you ever looked at your dog's behavior and wondered if it means you're doing something wrong?Coco is joined on the couch by Emely, an animal lover and advocate, for an honest family conversation about life with Fender, her energetic English Springer Spaniel. Fender is strong, excitable, vocal, affectionate, incredibly smart, and, as Emely lovingly describes him, a big ball of energy. She opens up about the moments when Fender's jumping, selective listening, love of the trash, and seemingly endless energy leave her frustrated and questioning herself as his owner. She also shares how comparing Fender to calmer, perfectly behaved dogs on social media can make those doubts even louder.Together they explore a gentler way of looking at those difficult moments. Rather than treating a dog's behavior as proof that we're failing, what if we viewed it as information about what our individual animal may need–and what may be happening within the relationship we share with them? They also discuss why dog training isn't one-size-fits-all, how Emely is learning to balance affection with boundaries, and how she has found herself developing greater patience and self-awareness through the experience of caring for Fender.Because loving someone well doesn't mean never struggling. And a difficult moment in a relationship doesn't have to become a verdict about who we are as a person. What This May Open Up for You:Why challenging behavior doesn't automatically mean you're failing as a pet parent. How comparison, especially through social media, can make us question the relationship we have with our own animals. Why dog training should reflect the individual dog, your lifestyle, and the behaviors necessary for safety rather than one universal standard. How loving and spoiling our animals can coexist within boundaries and training. Why difficult moments can be treated as information about what your relationship needs rather than evidence of personal failure.A reminder to notice not only what's difficult, but all the beautiful things that already exist within the life you share together.About Emely:Emely, Coco’s youngest son Sho’s girlfriend, joins Coco on the couch for a heartfelt family conversation. She’s mommy to Fender, her boy pup full of energy and joy, and to Enzo, Mavis, and Ozzie, whom she rescued as stray kittens. Together, they share about the tenderness of caring deeply, the challenges of pet parenting, and what it feels like to be loved without needing to be perfect.About Coco:Coco is a certified Animal Naturopath, neonatal kitten specialist, founder of Furbulous Living™, and host of Happy You.
