Afro-Colombian artist Hamilton joins us to talk about his rise from Cartagena, Colombia, and the growing Spanish-language Afrobeats movement he proudly says he originated. Hamilton opens up about touring with Ryan Castro, earning award nominations, celebrating gold and platinum certifications in his native Colombia, and collaborating with artists including Farruko, De La Ghetto, and Mau y Ricky. He gives special love to Farruko for being a true OG who has supported him, and shares how his song “Mi Reina” went viral on TikTok, taking his career to new heights.
The conversation also gets personal as Hamilton shares the story behind his name: his Jamaican grandfather traveled to Colombia by boat, met his grandmother, and together they had nine children. With his family still living along Colombia’s coast, Hamilton reflects on the Jamaican roots and love of African music that have always been present in his household.
From growing up on salsa and learning to perform by imitating salsa singers to revealing his favorite rappers, Hamilton connects the sounds that raised him with the music he’s making today. Get to know an artist we’re rooting for as he brings Cartagena, his culture, and his vision to the world.
