This week, listener, we get into some good old fashioned American propaganda. In this case, that all real Americans are actually immigrants, so we should love every immigrant [Europeans only]. Is this progress? Eh, sort of. Does it fall so short of actual cultural pluralism that to look back at it seems quaint and kind of evil? Sure does! Was it quaint and kind of evil at the time? You betcha! These new immigrants from the post-World-War-1 era of European austerity and collapse, called "dung," were at the forefront of the New Deal era coalition and, as World War 2 drew close, actively reporting on the atrocities they were fleeing across Europe. Americans didn't like how much their society resembled Nazi society, so they invented an idea of plurality, without changing the underlying social relations that keeps hate alive.
