After years operating as an international drug smuggler, David was arrested in Thailand and imprisoned inside Bangkok’s notorious Klong Prem Central Prison, better known as the “Bangkok Hilton.” Facing the possibility of the death penalty, he began planning what many believed was impossible.

In 1996, David cut through his cell bars, crossed the prison complex, scaled multiple walls and escaped using a makeshift ladder. He then changed into civilian clothing, calmly walked away beneath an umbrella and fled Thailand using a false passport.

David remains the only Westerner on record to have successfully escaped from Klong Prem.
