• Soulful folk with Dylan Dent, plus Lucky Fries
    2026/10/15

Acoustic folk-soul with Dylan Dent, live music listings and Lucky fries

When we started looking for someone to make our theme music, we focused on Dylan Dent, a Roanoker with a keen ear for catchy production. Most of his music is hip hop-oriented, but he has an acoustic side, too.

We liked both sides of his musical talent, but for now, the latter is good for our fledgling studio. Dylan was kind enough to bring his guitar in to sing a new song, “Anymore.”

That song and an interview with the multi-faceted performer anchors the second edition of Grooves and Grub, a Southwest Virginia culture podcast powered by Cardinal News!

Host Tad Dickens also samples loaded fries from Roanoke restaurant Lucky. Are all the toppings masking a “meh” tater? Listen in to find out.

We wrap it up with Tad’s quick breakdown of hotly awaited live shows coming up across Roanoke, Blacksburg, Rocky Mount, Lynchburg, Danville and Bristol.

We had some issues with video recording of this episode, so this time (and this time only), it’s an audio podcast, just like the old days. Stream it anywhere you listen to podcasts.

This podcast is built for the community, and we want to hear from you; follow along with Tad Dickens and share your favorite local bands or restaurant recommendations by emailing us at groovesandgrub@cardinalnews.org.

What do a 25th-anniversary music festival, a 50-acre nonprofit paradise, and a giant slice of late-night pizza have in common? They are all setting the stage for Grooves and Grub, a brand-new Southwest Virginia culture podcast powered by Cardinal News! Join your host, Tad Dickens, for an action-packed premiere featuring an exclusive studio interview and live performance of "Rhinestones" by singer-songwriter Erin Lunsford ahead of the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion.
