In this powerful Spirit Posse Solo episode, Carrie takes us onto the American Birkebeiner's Kortelopet, an 18-mile cross-country ski race through the Northwoods of Wisconsin, and into a much deeper story about grief, loss, spiritual connection, intuition, manifestation, & signs from the other side.

During this year's race, Carrie finds herself 15 miles into an exhausting & challenging course & facing a difficult stretch of frozen lake. Yet instead of feeling the fear she expected, she experiences an unexpected sense of calm and protection. That moment takes her back to 2018, when a tragic car accident sent Carrie & her husband Scott into the Wisconsin River. Carrie survived; Scott did not.

After his death, Carrie intuitively signed up for her first Kortelopet in 2019—even though she didn't own skis & barely knew what she was signing up for. Over the years, the race became much more than an endurance event. It became a spiritual ritual and a way of staying connected to the people she loves who have passed away.

On the trail, Carrie calls on her late father for strength on the flats, draws on the memory & spiritual presence of a dear friend on the climbs, & asks Scott to protect her on the downhills. She explores the deeply personal question many people experiencing grief have asked: Are our loved ones really communicating with us, or are we creating the connection in our own minds because we need it?
