  • Life After the Fog: Reclaiming Your Space, Your Routine, and Yourself After Cancer Treatment with Talaya Dendy
    2026/10/19
For millions of cancer survivors, the end of treatment is not the end of the journey — it is often the beginning of one of the most disorienting and isolating chapters of all. This week, Janet M. Taylor sits down with Talaya Dendy, a 15-year cancer thriver, board-certified patient advocate, health and wellness coach, and 2025 Bush Fellow, for a deeply personal and profoundly practical conversation about life after the fog of cancer treatment. This episode airs during Breast Cancer Awareness Month as a tribute to every survivor, caregiver, and anyone navigating a major life transition. Talaya's work as a Cancer Doula bridges the critical divide between the medical and emotional sides of cancer. She is the host of the podcast Navigating Cancer Together, a Cancer Health 25 Patient Advocate, and the founder of On the Other Side, where she provides holistic whole-person support for individuals across the cancer continuum with a specialty in the post-treatment phase. In this conversation, Talaya shares her own journey from noticing a lump on her neck in 2010 to receiving a Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis a year later after a doctor initially dismissed her concern, and how that experience gave birth to her identity as a fierce patient advocate. She explains why the day treatment ends is often when survivors feel most lost — their medical team disappears, their calendar empties, and the people around them assume that because the cancer is gone, everything is fine. She walks through the reality of chemo brain, scanxiety, fear of recurrence, physical long-term effects of treatment, and the grief many survivors carry for the person they were before diagnosis. She also addresses the identity shift that cancer forces, how it impacts entire households and caregiver relationships, and why the medical system was simply never designed to treat the life that comes after. Talaya closes with a powerful message for every survivor and anyone in a life transition: acknowledge what you have been through, give yourself grace, ask for help, and take it one small step — even one minute — at a time. She also shares a Lena Horne quote that carried her through her darkest moments and continues to guide her work today. Janet shares her own personal experience preparing for and recovering from a hysterectomy, including how she organized her home, stocked her pantry, set up her space for easy access during recovery, and leaned on her best friend and her community of food angels to get through it. This episode also includes Organizing with Janet, Taylor's Tip Time with five strategies for accepting help and staying organized during recovery, and a Toss It Tuesday reminder to clear out the medicine cabinet of expired medications and outdated medical documents. • Clearing More Than Clutter: How A Cancer Diagnosis Changed What I Kept, What I Let Go, and How I Live
    2026/10/12
This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and returning guest Dr. Angela Chester joins Janet for a conversation about clearing more than clutter. Dr. Angela, a pastoral counselor in Long Beach, California, and a breast cancer survivor of over 15 years, shares how her diagnosis forced a life audit she never chose: what she prepared for physically, what she released emotionally, and what she learned about loving herself through a body and appearance that no longer felt like her own. Dr. Angela describes the "nesting" instinct that took over once she learned she'd need chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, and why she chose to cut her hair short before treatment rather than watch it fall out on its own terms. She talks about the people around her as "co-survivors," each carrying their own version of the experience, and reflects on the fear that keeps so many people holding onto things long after they've stopped serving them. As a pastoral counselor, she connects that fear to faith, explaining why releasing what's broken makes room for what's next. Janet shares her own story of caring for her mother through leukemia treatment, including the day she cut her mother's hair, and the recovery pillow she held onto long after her own surgery had healed. In Organizing with Janet, she opens up about clothing she kept for years after a hysterectomy recovery until a friend encouraged her to let it go. In Taylor's Tip Time, Janet walks through how to decide what to release during a health recovery, how to find the right place to donate it, and how to take a moment to say thank you for the healing itself. Toss It Tuesday tackles old medications, medical supplies, and equipment that no longer serve your health. This week's quote: "You don't have to hold on to every reminder of what you went through. Letting it go doesn't erase your story. It honors how far you've come." Clear the clutter, claim your power. It starts with honoring your healing by clearing the space around it. • The Organized Woman's Guide to Protecting Her Health, Her Time, and Her Life
    2026/10/05
This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Janet is talking about something deeply personal: an illness that kept a nagging cough with her from May through July, and the wake-up call it gave her about protecting her health first. In this solo episode, Janet shares 8 practical ways to organize your life around your health, your time, and your wellbeing: scheduling your annual exams, staying hydrated, eating right without deprivation, finding movement that works for you, using a 15-minute nightly reset to prevent morning chaos, planning your week around your real capacity, finding a mentor, and making time for genuine fun. In Organizing with Janet, she shares a story about a friend caught without basic first aid supplies during an emergency, and why every home needs at least bandages and wound care on hand. In Taylor's Tip Time, Janet walks through how to purge, sort, and categorize a medicine cabinet by expiration date so you can find what you need in seconds, especially during cold and flu season. Toss It Tuesday tackles the small stuff, like expired nail polish, that quietly clutters your space. Janet also shares two of her go-to emergency preparedness products, the NOK Box and the My Body Passport, both designed to keep critical information organized and accessible when it matters most. This week's quote: "Your health is not one more thing on your list. It is the list. Protect it like everything else depends on it, because it does." Clear the clutter, claim your power. It starts with one appointment, one habit, one decision. Protect your health. Coming up this month: Talaya Dendy on reclaiming your space, routine, and yourself after "the fog," Dr. Angela Chester on clearing more than clutter after a cancer diagnosis, and Dr. Wendy Coulson returning to talk about organizing your health records with the My Body Passport.
